Night in Sight
The process is based on assembling images that come at random. From these pictures, I isolate selections and highlight elements from them such as color, texture, and light that will serve as starting points for the work. For me, these elements are loaded with the atmosphere that I want to weave into the painting. I am motivated by thinking about the act of covering and its two functions: on the one hand, that of concealing and hiding, and on the other, a covering as something that exposes and reveals. The work itself is layered, stratified, until suddenly something appears and is revealed through concealment. In this kind of work, the painting functions like an x-ray machine, and the canvas turns into an accomplice in concealing. The new, enigmatic image invites viewers to linger in the shadows, and the traces of other images leave their impressions.
